Private Guitar Lessons - Pros and Cons
Experienced guitar players like Slash, Carlos Santana, Bill Gibbons and Eric Clapton can be quite inspiring. Their playing is something amazing to witness. You do not see them struggling with technique or thinking about what they are doing. Instead, they are completely wrapped up in the music, and it is a true expression of their soul. Seeing an artist work like that is inspiring, and it makes sense if you want to learn to play guitar so that you can experience that blissful experience.
Group Guitar Lessons
Guitars are beautiful instruments.  Their sound, their design, the way they feel when you hold them.  There is something simply wonderful about them.  It makes sense that when you see one you have the desire to pick it up and strum the strings.  Perhaps you dream of being able to pick it up at informal gatherings so that you can play and sing a few tunes with your friends and family.  Whatever the reason, the desire to learn to play guitar is not an uncommon one.  This can make for a lot of guitar students who are unsure of how to learn.
Guitar Lesson DVDs at Home
Guitar training DVDs at home are probably my favorite method because of the comparative inexpensiveness and convenience.
My Favorite Guitar Lessons

There are many different varieties of guitar lessons out there, and it makes you wonder which one is the best type?  The truth is that the answer to that question changes from person to person.  Each person is a different type of learner and has different needs as a student.  This means that you need to take the time to learn who you are as a learner, what type of educational budget you have, and what your individual learning needs are.

Learning Guitar does not have to be expensive or inconvenient.

Hey guys and girls. My name's Jamey King and I've been playing guitar for about 35 years (since I was 6). I'm not a professional by any means although I have been in a few bands over the years. It's been more of a hobby for me and a great one at that. My dad taught me a few chords when I was a kid and I was hooked  ever since. Since I'm a bit of a recluse and don't really like crowds the band thing just never took hold for me. However the guitar itself has always been a source of pleasure and relaxation. On a sidenote I've found that women love guys that can play even a little bit. Women were not the reason I started playing but I definitely have enjoyed the fact that they have always gravitated toward me instead of me having to find them (like I said I am a recluse). My theory is that shallow  women just think the guitar is cool while more intellectual women appreciate the fact that someone has spent the time and effort to learn such a beautiful instrument. I love 'em all. Enough rambling.
When I was a teenager I tried private lessons from local guitar stores and such but found that I could progress more quickly and cheaply by using guitar theory books and learn at my own pace. This of course was before the internet or even VHS became popular. Recently I began researching different more current methods for learning guitar and came accross some really impressive systems. The "Gibson Learn and Master Guitar" system below is THE BOMB! This is the most thorough and easy to follow guitar training I've ever seen and I only wish I had access to this when I first began. Like I said, I've been playing for around 35 years and I'm still learning from this guy (Steve Krenz). I highly recommend trying this out but I've also listed some less expensive courses. Check out my reviews below.
Remeber that learning guitar is something you will carry with your whole life but it will take some effort. You Can Do This! Congratulations on your Journey! Jamey

Jamorama is hands down my favorite of the low cost online lessons due to it's quality, price, and flexibility. This is a one time fee ($39 US) membership site and all digital which means that you will need to have access to a computer. You will have instant access to the lessons upon payment ($39 With Full 60 Day Money Back Guarantee). They have several courses available to suit anyone from complete beginners to those with more advanced skill levels that want to improve their technique. They've got excellent audio and video resources to help demonstrate the lessons and they are adding features to help you learn more quickly every week.. They do an excellent job of taking the beginner through the process of learning tablature and basic music theory in order to quickly advance him or her into the proper frame of mind of confidence and comfortability which is essential for quick learning.

Jamorama offers 5 free lessons for those of you not quite ready to take the plunge. However, I highly recommend their full membership if you are serious about learning guitar. Guitar Scale Mastery

All you have to do is play Craig Bassett's video below to immediately see that he may just know a little something about mastering scales. I highly recommend this course to anyone from the beginner who wants to focus on playing lead guitar right from the start to any more advanced players who never got a thorough grasp of scales to begin with. Craig's system is designed to help you learn to internalize scales quickly and easily. What this means to a lead guitar player is never being at a loss for the next series of notes  no matter where you happen to be on the fretboard because the scales are a part of you. You won't have to think about where to go. You'll always be at home on the guitar. If your goal is to play lead guitar like Hendrix, Van Halen, Satrioni, Di Meola, etc., then you may seriously want to look into Craigs system. Cost: $67.00 for a Three Year Membership - Full 60 Day Money Back Guarantee!
